How we test, rate and write about privacy tools.
Independence
Commissions and ads never decide what we recommend or how we rate it. Companies cannot pay for a better score or a review. If we receive a review account or product, we say so.
How we test
- We sign up, use the service like a normal customer and read its documentation.
- We check how encryption is described, whether it is zero-knowledge, where the company is based and which laws apply.
- We look for open-source code and independent security audits, and note who did them and when.
- We record pricing and plans, and the date we last tested.
Scorecards
The privacy score combines zero-knowledge encryption (counted twice), open source and independent audits. It measures privacy claims and the evidence for them, not overall quality. Where we could not verify something, we leave it unrated.
Corrections and updates
We update articles when things change and show the updated date. Found a mistake? Write to c3958513@gmail.com and we will fix it and note the change.
